The pandemic is causing stress, anxiety, depression, panic behavior, and many other varied reactions. Keep calm, we will not run out of food, water or other supplies. On top of all this, many are being asked to work at home with their children at home from schools canceled for weeks. Now is the time to take a deep breath and follow some tips to do it quickly and without stress or at least with less stress.

1. Get some exercise. Many states have closed gyms and fitness centers, so go for a walk or exercise at home. Whether you’re a morning person or an evening person, plan your schedule accordingly. You probably still have some useful DVDs. There are a host of YouTube, apps, and on-demand programs that will allow you to get a good workout. Many allow a 30-day free trial, which is perfect for this time frame.

2. Take a shower in the morning. Wearing it fresh and clean will give you the feeling and energy to get a full day’s work done.

3. Dress like you’re going to work or in something other than pajamas. This will also give you the feeling and energy you will need for the day.

4. If you are at home with the children, make sure they have something to do. There are hundreds of learning computer apps, and hopefully your school is giving you learning lessons and assignments to complete. Give them 15-minute breaks every hour or so. If possible, send them out into the yard to run and burn some of that energy.

5. Explain the situation to the best of your ability and without stress. There is no use putting them in a state of worry or stress. Tell them that you will be working from home and will need quiet moments to complete your work. If you’re going to be on a phone call or video call, make sure they know about it and set a timer so they can talk to you again.

6. Eat lunch with them and have fun conversations so they still feel connected and aren’t worried or stressed.

7. When your work is complete, be there and give them your undivided attention for a short time.

8. Plan your meals so they are not a stressor for you. Many restaurants are still delivering or allowing takeout, so take advantage when you can.
