I came here feeling scared and alone
Knowing that I’m far from my true home
The feeling was intense when I took my first breath.
So I gave my first smile and swore I’d do my best
I live in this world, but I’m not like you
I find a challenge, the things that I do
An alert part of me always knows
That you are uncomfortable with me, it shows
But I’m like you as a spirit inside
It’s where my true self resides
This body, this mind are tools to use
Please look at me this way and don’t inflict any abuse.
Because it hurts like you, it really hurts
We are all different and unique, all are gifts for others to see
So throw away the judgments and watch me for me.
An invitation of compassion, of love, is open to you.
So let the light inside me shine
So pure, so rare, so divine
And I’ll show you something worthwhile
An innocence, a blessing, an inner child.
I can help you grow, I can teach you a lot
All I want is a life to touch
An opportunity to open a door for you
To help you see beyond the challenges I have to overcome.
I am not them, I am much more
