It’s that time of year again and after much nagging from your little one throughout the year, you’ve finally agreed to throw a birthday party, even though it seems like it’s only been a few weeks since their last birthday! With the economic downturn, money is tight, but at the end of the day, as a loving parent, you don’t want to let your children down or let them down, after all, they are so young that they don’t yet understand the value of money and all they want to do is to have fun. Sounds too familiar, doesn’t it?

If you think you can relate to this, here are some tips on how to throw a party and make your child happy without putting yourself under a ton of stress with a huge tooth in your pocket:

Plan your budget:

Yes, of course, this is obvious, but it is often what people do not do correctly. Make a list and write down all the potential costs. This way, you won’t miss out on something important like party bags, which are often left for last as an afterthought that could end up costing more if you go into panic buying mode.

Share your party:

Well why not? If you don’t mind the idea and your child wouldn’t mind, don’t be afraid to ask parents or school friends if they’d like to team up with you. Chances are they were probably thinking the same thing as you. If a boy’s birthday falls within the same month as hers, sharing a party is a sure way to cut costs. It also helps to share the workload and preparations.

Allow enough time to prepare for the party:

Another thing that many parents do not do due to lack of time. Buying last minute things like party supplies, especially online, resulting in having to spend more for a faster delivery service.

Not allowing enough time for parents to RSVP and look up answers results in last minute add-ons, thus more expense. Try to avoid overspending and waste by knowing your party numbers before you shop for the party.

By allowing plenty of time for party shopping, you can ensure you get the best deals, too.

It’s the way you do it:

Think of this old Bananarama song that comes to mind: “It’s not what you do, it’s how you do it…and that’s what gets results!

For a young child, even a small DIY party at home will be the best party ever! Children are easily pleased, well most anyway!

It’s all about imagination and creativity, coming up with ideas to entertain the kids for a couple of hours, creating exciting party bags that look much more expensive than they cost.

Again, this all comes down to careful planning, but it’s worth it in the end when you see a big smile on your child’s face that day!
