One of the things I learned at the Advertising Summit was that the fastest way to get publicity is to be on time. Therefore, creating a media calendar for yourself can be an invaluable tool for getting publicity online. That is, write down all the times of the year when your topic could be relevant to launch to the media in your niche. You can even check the Chase Annual Events Directory to see if there are any holidays that specifically relate to your topic.

For example, after finding out that the fourth Sunday in October was “Mother-in-Law’s Day,” I Googled “Wedding Blogs” and “Mom” related blogs, and submitted this speech to some of the top ranked:

October 26 is Mother-in-Law’s Day How to turn your mother-in-law from your biggest critic into your # 1 fan in 3 simple steps!

… and I asked them if they would like to post a review or pre-prepared Q&A session and run a giveaway on their site (I offered some e-books, it costs me nothing and it spreads the word and the buzz about my book). I got multiple responses, and so far I got a ton of traffic this month.

Another example: I set up a Google Alert for “Mother in Law” and they alerted me to the fact that Joe Biden’s MIL passed away a few weeks ago. So I emailed this to a high ranking site:

Joe Biden’s Mother-in-Law Dies How To Make Up With Your Mother-in-Law Before It’s Too Late!

They did an article and they cited me as an expert and they also mentioned my book.

Of course, then there is the whole world of article marketing. One of the best people to teach this great thing is Jeff Herring, who provides a couple of free templates to get you started. I wrote my first two articles in about 20 minutes using these templates. One of the best places to submit your articles is Ezine Articles.

You want to make sure you don’t mention your book in the article, but rather deliver great content in the form of tips, pros and cons, top 10 lists, etc. Then be sure to use the resource box to your advantage. Make sure you have all of your information, and something that really helps is offering some kind of free gift as well. Here is the example of the bi-line that I use at the end of my articles:
