Skunk is the name of a mammal that secretes an oily liquid that has a foul odor and is known as a skunk odor. It will be a big problem if a skunk sprays your dog. There are many remedies available, such as tomato juice or vinegar, but these things only cover the smell. There are also many products available on the market that address skunk odor, such as Nature’s Miracle Skunk odor remover.

In 1993, Paul Krebaum, a chemist developed the technique that can be prepared at home. This recipe stimulates the reaction of chemicals that break down the oil and deactivate the effect of the smell. This took 30 minutes of time and is not very difficult to prepare.

Shortly after realizing the dog has been sprayed by a skunk, put on gloves and find out if the dog has been bitten or scratched. Examine the dog’s eyes carefully. Contact the vet immediately in case any redness appears in the eyes or if there are scratches or bite marks on the body.

Don’t waste time thinking. Rather, take the dog for a bath as soon as possible in an open area. Mix hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and liquid soap in a plastic container along with some warm water. Mix the ingredients well and use this solution to massage the affected part with the help of a cloth or sponge. Leave the solution applied for five minutes and then wash the dog with warm water. The affected area might turn light in color due to the chemicals, but don’t worry, it will recover soon. This solution is very effective in removing skunk odor from dogs.

Any unused solution should be discarded. If you store it, there is a risk of the container exploding due to the build-up of chemical pressure.
