Most squirt gun fights tend to happen spontaneously and there isn’t much organization (which is fine of course!). However, as we begin the summer, with many potential squirt gun battles on the horizon, it might be a good idea to be aware of some tactics that can make you dominant in battle. These tactics can be especially useful for those well-staged squirt gun fights with lots of your friends.

We’ll start with something the military calls Total Operational and Situational Awareness (TOSA). That means you have to be aware of where you are and what your situation is. What water guns, balloons, hoses do you have available? Who is on your side? Who are your enemies? How many of them are there? What weapons do they have? Ok, this might seem pretty obvious, but you’d be surprised how many water gun fighters lose consciousness once a battle begins. You also need to know where your water supply is, this will become even more important as we get into some basic maneuvers.

the ambush

Ambushing means attacking your enemies from a concealed location as they pass by. The bushes and trees were made to hide. Houses, sheds, or other structures also work great. Setting up a good ambush requires some planning. You have to anticipate where your enemies will travel to. Where do you think they will come looking for you? Will they go to your water supply to recharge (the water hose, or return to the kitchen, etc.)? Keeping these things in mind will help you organize an effective ambush!

Load

When you charge, you throw everything at your enemy at once. The idea is that you overwhelm them all at once so they don’t have to fight back and fight back. For a good charge, you need to make sure that all your team members are ready and that their water guns are completely filled. Load up some water balloons too, water balloons are a great way to surprise the enemy. Charges work best when you also have the element of surprise.

Envelope

Wrapping is a classic technique that can be very effective. Split your team and attack your enemy at the same time from different directions. This divides their attention and they are shot from many different directions. As with most of these techniques, the wrap works best when you launch a surprise attack.

using a lure

When you use a decoy, you trick your enemies into attacking someone on your team to lure them out of their current locations. You may want to do this to cut off their water supply or lure them into an ambush. These are some good tactics to start with, but there are many more. In general, keep in mind that it’s also helpful to have the right water pistols for the right tactical situations. Know ahead of time if you’re going to need high-volume squirt guns like the Water Warriors Hydra Pak, or more explosive squirt guns like the Super Soaker Hydro Cannon. I recommend that you familiarize yourself with the capabilities of different water guns in advance.
