To play all your favorite karaoke hits at home, you’ll need a microphone, a player, and a collection of songs. One of the cheapest ways to achieve this is to purchase a DVD player with karaoke for as little as $30.
Although some would argue that setting up to perform on your computer is the least expensive way because you only need a $20 microphone and 79-cent karaoke downloads. If you’re computer literate and willing to spend $49 on karaoke software, you can create your own custom DVDs using your existing mp3 collection.
You don’t have to break the bank buying karaoke machines at home. For example, the Cavs 105G DVD ($119, Sumamic) comes with a microphone, remote control, A/V cable, and a karaoke DVD machine that plays music CDs, DVD movies, and special karaoke CD Gs. Singers will enjoy key control, vocal cancellation, volume control, microphone mixing, and superior Dolby Digital 5.1 sound.
Another option is the VocoPro DVG399K ($110 at Zzsounds), which works in exactly the same way. Or, if you want a professional-looking karaoke system, then you could try The Singing Machine’s STVD-1001 DVD/CDG Pedestal Karaoke System with Tower Speakers ($79 at Amazon), which lets you play karaoke songs on CDs. G and DVD.
According to online retailer Amazon, kids’ karaoke DVD deals tend to sell better. Disney’s “High School Musical” 1 & 2, “Hannah Montana,” “Disney Radio Hits” 1 & 2, plus Sesame Street’s “Jump & Jive with Hi-5” and “Sesame Sings Karaoke” are all karaoke hits. For older teens and adults, Billboard released a “Top 10 Karaoke Box Set” featuring 40 songs including John Lennon, Neil Diamond, Dolly Parton, and Sting, to name a few artists.
Additionally, Party Tyme offers a multitude of karaoke songs on DVD for $13.99, with themes including: Broadway, Country, Old Country, Greatest Hits, Oldies, Pop, Rock, and Love Songs. Startrax also offers DVDs of fun genres including ’80s Movies, ’80s Pop, Alternative Anthems, Top 20 Other Hits, At the Movies, Back to School, Boogie Nights, Classic R&B, Country Classics, Dance on the streets, disco classics, girls and boys nights to name a few.
Of course, not all genres are easy to find on DVD, although it can be done.
