Although outdoor furniture is made from all-weather materials, one has to act wisely to prolong its lifespan. Don’t leave everything up to the manufacturer, as they are not end users. This article sheds some light on furniture protection. Follow the steps listed below to improve the usefulness of the furniture.

Step 1:

Generally, garden furniture is exposed to all forms of pollution. So brush them to remove the dust.

Check for damage. If there are any, clear the problem. Otherwise, your efforts will be in vain.

Separate the upholstery and the furniture structure as they must be cleaned separately.

But wicker furniture is completely different. They have to be covered with a hose. Wood and metal furniture can be cleaned with a sponge.

To make the cleaning process easier, use a specific cleaning solution for the material you are using.

Step 2:

Upholstery protection- Outdoor furniture upholstery is delicate. Fabric upholstery needs a little more maintenance. The upholstery defines the beauty of the furniture. Therefore, it must be washed properly to remove its gloomy appearance. After washing, it must be properly dried to prevent mildew. If there is less sunlight, then use electric dryers. Dry it until the humidity level reaches zero. Then apply a fabric protector that does not affect the nature of the fabric. All fabric pieces should be sprayed seasonally to increase life.

Step 3:

Frame protection- As said in the first step, the framework must be treated separately.

Ultraviolet radiation from the sun and rain are the main causes of damage. Look for an outdoor furniture protector that will negate the negative effects of the weather. It can be applied to plastic and metal furniture frames with a brush.

For wooden frames, apply a normal paint. The pigments in the paint can protect the furniture from heat and water. The wooden frame should be painted periodically because the paint on the frame tends to chip and fade.

The protector must be applied in a ventilated place using masks and gloves to avoid adverse incidents.

Stage 4:

Make them stain and water resistant. A small stain can damage the attractiveness of the furniture. Therefore, apply a stain remover and a water repellent every two years. The waterproofing prevents water from reaching the lower layers of the wood and also speeds up the evaporation process. Avoid the use of repellants, which have a high oil content.

Many prefer to stay indoors during extreme conditions. Cover patio furniture during those times. If you have enough space to store all the furniture, then you can save yourself the investment in slipcovers. If you have no choice, spread furniture covers over furniture that can protect it from heat and dust.
