The company said the computer will feature a new microprocessor from Intel, the world’s largest semiconductor maker. Apple has offered student and teacher discounts since the early 1980s to compete with rivals IBM, Dell and Hewlett-Packard, among others, for the lucrative market for educational personal computers. About 12 percent of Apple’s 2005 net sales came from the education market, which includes elementary and secondary schools, universities and individual buyers.
