A ceramic umbrella stand is a fantastic focal point in any foyer or living room. In fact, you could put one of these in any room in your house. Some people use them as vases to display beautiful fresh flowers. This is something about fresh flowers that makes every home so attractive. Others will put these beautiful storage jars in their bathrooms or bedrooms.

Regardless of where you use your ceramic umbrella stand, you will need to clean it at some point. This can make a lot of people nervous, especially if it is an antique. If it’s been printed in China on the bottom, you know you should be able to replace it fairly easily if the worst happens and it breaks. But when it comes to a family heirloom or expensive investment, it’s another matter.

Ceramic may be glazed, which is good as dust finds it difficult to settle. Use a damp cloth and wipe it down regularly. If you have been using the flower stand, it may have some dirt on the bottom. Try rinsing it with lukewarm water to remove any loose debris. Take a soft brush, like an old toothbrush, and try to remove any stubborn dirt. Be careful not to rub. This may remove dirt, but it is likely to take the ceramic coating with it.

Prepare a solution of baking soda, household ammonia or vinegar and water. Fill the support with this solution and let it sit for a while. After 15 minutes, check if the dirt has been removed, if it has just rinsed off. If not, let it rest for another while but limit the time to 45 minutes. After this period, your ceramic umbrella stand should be as good as new.
