When a high-demand event sells out, there are still a couple of ways to purchase those tickets. We could buy from a Ticket Broker or we could buy from a reseller or some other anonymous person who sells on the Internet through classified ads. In this article, I wanted to explore the pros and cons of buying from a ticket broker and buying from a scalper or classified ads:

Buying from a reseller or an anonymous person found in the classifieds (Craigslist.org):

Advantage:

1) Tickets can be much lower in price than a ticket broker would list them.

2) There are no service fees and little to no delivery fees.

3) Many offers can be found in the classified ads.

Cons:

1) The tickets you buy may be fake.

2) Since most transactions are done in cash, there is nothing to protect you from a scam.

3) Sometimes these sellers want to meet you in an uncomfortable environment to make the transaction which can be very dangerous.

Buying from a ticket broker:

Advantage:

1) Most ticket brokers offer a money back guarantee policy if something goes wrong with the tickets.

2) Most ticket brokers belong to membership groups like the Better Business Bureau that keep ticket brokers online and honest.

3) Most ticket brokers offer a reliable shipping method.

4) Many Ticket Broker websites offer other valuable information to keep the consumer well informed about the buying and selling process.

Cons:

1) Ticket brokers in most cases WILL increase ticket prices above face value.

2) Ticket Broker charges service fees (sometimes a bit high) and delivery fees.

Summary:

Although deals can be found by buying from scalpers or finding tickets through classified ads such as Craigslist.org, a buyer is at risk of being ripped off or worse, physical danger! However, while purchasing from an established ticket broker will likely cost more, the buyer will have peace of mind knowing that the tickets are real and will be delivered safely.
