And that’s how the story goes; on Saturday night in Flushing Meadows the Belgian number one in the world tennis ranking, Justine Henin; she captured her seventh Grand Slam title by winning two sets from Russian player Svetlana Kuznetsova, also a former Grand Slam winner.

Justine had won the title in 2003 but since then; She has struggled to overcome her personal problems and her physical injuries, but all of that seems to be a thing of the past as a new chapter unfolds for the 25-year-old hard-working athlete. “It’s a great feeling,” Henin said after the game. “I had an amazing two weeks and played my best tennis.” Henin also becomes the first and only woman to this day to beat both Williams sisters in the same tournament en route to the final.

On the other hand, we have King Federer whose authority on hard courts is unquestionable. It didn’t matter if he played a left or right handed player, the fast running backs or even the ones twice his size; Federer captured his fourth consecutive Grand Slam title at the 2007 US Open… a fact that leaves an open question for all comers in the world of tennis… Is Federer improving? …this question will certainly freeze a lot of rackets right now; since no one seems to find a way to break it.

Many have said that Federer is the best thing that can happen to the sport. He is simply an exceptional player, whose game is fair, keeps his cool at all times, studies his opponents and uses different strategies and most important of all, he really enjoys what he does for a living.
In addition, there are Nathalie Dechy and Dinara Safina who won the women’s double and the
Belarusian duo Victoria Azarenka and Max Mirnyi who won the mixed doubles title.

These last two weeks have been extraordinary; we have all enjoyed matches we could never have imagined. Also, many doors have been opened for those players who exceeded expectations; names that we will continue to see rise in the world ranking that will come out on September 10 on the ATP and WTA lists.
